In this video I lay out an epistemology for biblical studies that can help a reader overcome the following fallacies in the search for truth.
- The way I read the Bible is truth!
- The way my community interprets the Bible is truth!
- The historical Christian application of this text is the truth!
- The translated biblical text itself is the truth!
- The author’s original writing is the truth!
- The author’s understanding and intent is the truth!
- The phenomenon described by the author is the truth!
- The natural order of creation is the truth!
Ultimately, all of these pieces of the biblical journey contribute to our understanding of truth, which I define as a revelation of God. This revelation can take place with or without the biblical texts. However, these ancient scriptures (writings) have been preserved over the centuries because people have found them helpful in the quest for connection with the divine!
If you’re somebody who values looking into the scriptures for a deeper knowledge of truth, I would encourage to wrestle with some of the ideas presented in this video. Maybe you will find them helpful! Maybe you will have some thoughts of your own to add!
